THROWBACK: When Shah Rukh Khan opened about his first teacher in Bollywood

Shah Rukh Khan has spent many decades in Bollywood. He has won millions of hearts while working in the industry, but the actor never forgets to acknowledge the ones who helped him reach heights and achieve an honourable status in the acting community.

The Jawan actor had opened about his “first genuine teacher” in Bollywood once. He had credited the late choreographer Saroj Khan as one of his earliest mentors. As Saroj Khan had passed away on July 3, 2020, Shah Rukh had taken to social media to pen a heartfelt note.

“My first genuine teacher in the film industry. She taught me for hours how to do the ‘dip’ for film. One of the most caring, loving & inspiring personas I have ever met. Will miss you Sarojji. May Allah bless her soul. Thank u for looking after me,” he wrote.

During a recent interview at the 77th Locarno Film Festival, Shah Rukh Khan also revealed how Saroj Khan had been instrumental in the discovery of his signature pose. He quipped that he could not perform the ‘dip’ dance step, something that actors from the ‘90s had to be acquainted with. While he practised the same all night to capture the movement properly, Saroj Khan suggested that he stands and puts his arms out instead. She had also noted the ‘dip’ dance step did not look good on him.
